| I'm alive, and after nearly a year, still here. This blog has taken very low priority in my life. As you may have gathered. Life has been so good. God is amazing. School is excellent. Looking forward to graduating next May as a nurse... Lord willing. Maybe I'll update again after I graduate. Until then fair well. I have a new blog... www.medic85.blogspot.com It might be updated more often... no promises. | | |
| Home Again!! It's good to be back... very long day of flying, I left the house in Haiti around 7 AM and got to bed at home about 1 AM. All the flights went great. I think mixed emotions are fairly typical when people come back from Haiti. As Zach said, Haiti breaks your heart and keeps some of the pieces. I would have loved to stay longer but I really feel for right now the best thing for me would be to continue my education and job experience. So we'll see what's in the future. My thanks go to Zach, Lori, Licia and all the others who made me feel at home and have such a wonderful time. Folks, they are doing an incredible work. This is the hands on nitty gritty day in and day out service... and it's impacting thousands of people. Your prayers for them and the ministry I'm sure would be very appreciated... they're also in desperate financial need... so consider that. I have links to there blogs in a previous post or in my subscriptions. So, back to the old grind. I'll try to keep up an update a month but no promises :)

| Hey everyone... I figured I should update, just to let you know I'm alive and stuff. Thursday was the last day of official clinic for the week. Lots of people but not much in the trauma department. It was a slower day for me, but interesting anyway. Friday I took it easy around the house awhile then went to town with Zach and about 17 other people in his crewcab short bed pickup (crowded). Thats always fun. The roads back here are totaly amazing. About 10 times worse then your thinking. Yeah, that bad. You can run to town about as fast as you can drive. Then today I've been downright lazy. I went swimming in the river for a while with some Haitian kids. That was pretty fun, well see what kind of parasites I can grow from that. So that is pretty much the sum of it. Not quite as cool as my last post but I'm still havin fun. If you don't want to comment (or even if you do) feel free to fire me an email... keep me up to date on ya'lls life. I might even write back (if you're lucky). Enjoy your weekend...-Wes
Random Photos:

Kids playing in the rain. The two boys are Enoch and Licias (the folks I'm living with here) The girl and her sister live here as well, I guess there mom died and they're being adopted by families in the states.

Proof old Cummins never die. It still runs like a charm.

Some twins (a boy and girl, once again pardon the pink) that they took here at the rescue center. They're from the mountians several hours away and the mom died in birth. Dad brought them here because he could not take care of them. They're both under 3 lbs and if they both survive the rescue center will probably keep them for a couple years until there dad can take them.

That folks is a baby which I had a part assisting into the world. It's a boy (pardon the pink) and it was really a miracle all parties survived. I won't go into the details here (I have to save some stories for when I get home) But when mom first came in the baby was crowning (it's head was just showing) and Lori thought it was dead... but it wasn't. It was a very abnormal and traumatic birth and afterwards there was severe bleeding so we were pretty worried about the mom. But she did fine too. In all I got to cut the cord, start 2 IV's, and suction and clean the baby while Lori worked on mom. So that was cool, very glad it had a happy ending. For a while it looked pretty bad.
Next up is a guy who had a major infection in his finger and it resulted in the bone growing out the side and the tip of the finger separating... it's kinda weird, anyway he wanted it amputated. Lori tried to get him to go elsewhere but he wouldn't so she did it for him. Here is a before and after picture. I have a couple shots during the ordeal but I'll spare you.

Other then that it was a normal day :) The clinic was a little short staffed so I was kept busier, I got to give lots of shots and help change dressings and stuff. I haven't gotten a chance to try my hand a sutures yet... I kinda know how but we'll see if opportunity arises for me to try it.
All for tonight. Bye :) | | |
